Refreshing the Brand of a Much-Loved Neighbourhood Restaurant

The Client

LeftField in Bruntsfield is a hidden gem of the Edinburgh restaurant scene. Family-owned, this wee neighbourhood bistro is tucked onto the corner of Bruntsfield Links and serves delicious Scottish food, often with a Middle-Eastern twist. Owners, Phil (chef) and Rachel (front-of-house), are passionate about sustainability, championing local produce and offering a cosy, happy nook to enjoy great food and wine.

The Objective

To undertake a full brand review: establishing the restaurant’s vision, mission and values, setting a tone of voice and expressing these visually in a new logo and marketing materials such as signage, menus, business cards and gift vouchers.

The Project

Lucinda conducted a branding workshop at the restaurant with Phil and Rachel to get under the skin of the LeftField brand, understand their aspirations and core customers, get a feel for the space and take them, step-by-step, through the branding process. The deliverables of this workshop were:

  • a document outlining the 7Ps of marketing (Product, Price, Place, Promotion, People, Process & Physical Evidence); the brand vision, mission and values; and a clear outline of LeftField’s customer base
  • a professional branding brief ready for our graphic design partner to use (see our blog post about this here)
  • a collaborative moodboard of imagery, colour and typography to give the designer a visual guide to LeftField’s brand personality

The branding brief was then passed onto a designer who translated it into a beautiful new visual identity for LeftField. Phil and Rachel have since developed their brand further with a luxurious, dark colour palette creating the perfect frame to their beautiful view of Arthur’s Seat across The Meadows.
